Garden Tidy-Up Service in Cornwall

Not sure where to start with your garden? A one-off tidy-up is often all it takes to get things back under control — and to set you up for a more manageable garden going forward.

One of the most common calls I get is from homeowners who feel overwhelmed by their garden. Maybe it's been left for a season, maybe life got busy, or maybe the last gardener wasn't up to scratch. Whatever the reason, gardens in Cornwall can get away from you quickly — especially with our wet summers that keep everything growing fast.

A one-off garden tidy-up is the most practical first step. It gets you back to a clean baseline, and from there it's much easier — and cheaper — to maintain.

What Does a Garden Tidy-Up Include?

A garden tidy-up isn't the same as a full clearance. It's about bringing a tired or neglected garden back to a presentable standard — cutting back what needs cutting, pulling what needs pulling, and generally restoring some order. Depending on the size of your garden and what it needs, a tidy-up typically includes:

  • Lawn mowing and edging — the lawn is the first thing you notice, and getting it cut and neatly edged immediately transforms the look of a garden.
  • Hedge and shrub trimming — overgrown shrubs and hedges are cut back to shape and tidied up.
  • Weeding — borders and beds are cleared of weeds, giving plants space to breathe and grow.
  • Pruning — dead or damaged stems and branches are cut back where needed.
  • Patio and path clearing — sweeping and light clearing of paved areas, removal of weeds from joints.
  • Waste removal — all the material generated is cleared away and taken off-site.

Not every garden needs all of these — some need more focus on the lawn, others on overgrown borders or hedges. I assess each garden individually and focus the time where it's needed most.

How Is a Tidy-Up Different From a Full Garden Clearance?

A clearance is for gardens that have completely gone over — significant amounts of waste, years of growth, possibly trees or large shrubs that need removing. A tidy-up is for a garden that's been left for a season or two and needs bringing back to a manageable state. The key difference is usually the scale of the work and the amount of waste involved.

If you're unsure which applies to your situation, don't worry — that's exactly what the free garden visit is for. I'll come and look and give you an honest assessment of what it needs and what it will cost.

When Should You Book a Garden Tidy-Up?

Honestly, any time of year is fine — but there are a few moments when a tidy-up makes particular sense:

  • Early spring — before the main growing season starts, clearing away winter damage and preparing borders for new growth.
  • Late spring / early summer — if the garden has got ahead of you in the first rush of growth and needs pulling back.
  • Early autumn — the ideal time in Cornwall. Tidying before winter protects the garden and means it starts next spring in much better shape.
  • Before an event — if you've got people coming or you just want the garden looking its best.
  • Moving into a new property — getting the previous owners' garden sorted so you can make it your own.

Can a Tidy-Up Turn Into a Regular Service?

It often does. Many of my regular customers started with a one-off tidy-up, saw the results, and decided they'd rather keep it looking good. A regular maintenance visit every fortnight or month is much less work than bringing a neglected garden back each time — and it works out better value too.

There's no obligation to commit to anything on the first visit. But if you'd like to talk about regular maintenance after the tidy-up, I'm happy to put together an ongoing arrangement that works for you and your garden.
